After years of being ignored by the rest of the world, pink swimming pool video games are finally getting some attention from parents.
“It’s time for us to come together and make the best out of this year and all the fun and activities we can have together,” said Katie Gaffney, whose family has owned a pool in Orlando, Florida for 10 years.
Gaffney is the mother of a 6-year-old daughter, who has attended the pool for several years.
She said she’s been impressed with the community response.
“We’ve had hundreds of emails and phone calls, people from all over the country and people in Florida,” she said.
“I think it’s really important to get it out there that the public has been really supportive of this and I think it shows the love for the sport that the people in Orlando are passionate about.”
Gaffneys daughter is a recent convert to swimming.
“It was an instant decision to get her involved in swimming,” she explained.
“The only thing I had to worry about was getting her ready for the pool and it was a lot easier than getting her to a swim meet.”
She’s had to work hard to earn her stripes, but says it’s been worth it.
“My daughter loves to go to pool classes and I love to get out there and be out in the water,” she added.
Gaffes daughter is now enrolled in the pool’s first-ever class, which is expected to run until December.
She said it’s important to keep the pool open, so people who might not normally come to the pool can have fun.
“When you have kids that are not going to be in a swimming pool all the time, the kids get out of there and that’s what we need to keep that going,” she continued.
“I think that it’s so important to make sure that the kids are having fun, that they’re safe and that they are doing what they’re supposed to do.
